(This info was also emailed to you on 11/2 from: firstname.lastname@example.org)
Dear Conference Attendee,
The 7th Farm-Based Education Gathering is November 10-12 at the Pearlstone Conference & Retreat Center in Reisterstown, MD. Pre-conference field trips are November 8-10. All field trips are fully booked, and a confirmation for each field trip, and details on where to meet and what to bring will be sent early next week. You can view the conference program here.
Getting To Pearlstone
The online schedule is updated with event start and ending times.
Using the Pearlstone Center address in GPS/Google Maps will get you CLOSE, but not quite there. Therefore we recommend the following:
1 - Follow directions to 5425 Mt. Gilead Rd., Reisterstown, MD 21136.
2 - Once you’re on Mt. Gilead Road, follow the signs to Pearlstone Center, not the instructions from Google Maps or GPS.
If you are staying at the Sheraton Baltimore North in Towson, there will be a free shuttle to take you to the Pearlstone Center on Sunday afternoon 11/10. It will depart the Sheraton at 3:45 pm, 5 pm, 6:15 pm, if there are riders to transport. Please sign up!
By Ride Service
Lyft, Uber and cabs also service the Pearlstone Center.
*Due to the various departure times of different guests, there is not a shuttle at the end of the conference. Please consider ridesharing with those you meet or hiring a cab service.
The Pearlstone Kitchen will be preparing healthy, delicious farm-to-table meals and snacks throughout the conference. The Pearlstone kitchen is under the strict supervision of the Orthodox Union (OU). This means:
Outside food or beverage is not permitted into the Main Building. Guests may bring water bottles and/or travel mugs in the Main Building, but they are not permitted in Pearlstone’s dining room (cups and beverages are provided in the dining hall).
Meals were included in the cost of your registration, so if you are registered to be at the conference on a given day, your breakfast, snacks, lunch and dinner are provided for the day(s) you’re attending.
All meals are served buffet style. All dietary restrictions submitted during your registration prior to 10/4 were given to the Kitchen Staff at Pearlstone Center at that time. If you registered after 10/4, and have significant dietary needs that require a separate meal than what's served at the buffet, we are unable to accommodate your restrictions. We're sorry for the inconvenience.
If you bring food (including personal snacks, coffee/tea) into the Main Building, you will be asked to take it outside, and you can store it in the Canteen, located in Tribes Lounge, where Kosher Law does not apply.
A small assortment of complementary, non-Kosher snack foods will be available in the Tribes Lounge during the conference.
Cash for Drinks
There are no ATMs on site, but we will have a bar each evening with a suggested drink donation of $5/drink. Please come with cash - thank you!
Sitting on the Floor...
Our event is maxing out the available seating at Pearlstone, so we will have chairs for 3/4 of our attendees, and invite those who are comfortable sitting on the floor and standing during keynote and workshop sessions to do so! Bring a cushion and get cozy. Thank you for understanding.
Gifts from Your Farm
During registration, many of you offered to bring a gift from your farm. Thank you! Edible gifts can be contributed to a communal snack table in the Canteen, located in the Tribes Lounge, where non-Kosher food, and all outside food is permitted. If you brought a non-food item, keep it with you and gift it to someone you meet during the conference!
Bulletin Board and Resource Table
There will be a centrally located bulletin board for ridesharing, posting job descriptions, and signing up for nighttime and midday activities. A small table will be available on the 2nd floor for resources you'd like to share. Be sure to pick up your materials at the end of the conference, or they will be recycled.
Finally, enjoy the Pearlstone Center!
While onsite, be sure to....
Explore their organic certified farm including vegetables, fruit trees, berries, grains, herbs, flowers, two greenhouses, and educational gardens.
