POSITION SUMMARY:
Hard Bargain Farm and the Alice Ferguson Foundation in Accokeek, MD seeks part-time Seasonal Summer Camp Counselors to help develop and lead 4 weeks of summer camp for children ages 4-13. The ideal candidate is energetic and enjoys being outside, working with a diverse team, and inspiring an appreciation of nature with campers from June 12 - August 18th, 2023 from 8:30 AM-4:30 PM daily, Monday through Friday.ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Primary Role(s):
Supervise and lead a group of up to 15 campers through engaging age-appropriate daily activities including environmental education programming, outdoor exploration, games, crafts, kayaking, etc.
Ensure children’s safety, manage behavior, and act as a role model and mentor
Work collaboratively with other camp staff and volunteers to ensure a quality camp environment
Manage all aspects of camps including administrative tasks prior to start of camp including daily setup, clean up, and management of materials
Secondary Role(s):
Ensure the site is kept clean, organized, and free of litter
Communicate professionally and effectively with:
Education Staff regarding concerns, challenges, and camper experiences
Other staff members and volunteers
Parents/Guardians of campers
Assist and supervise campers while kayaking
Maintain accurate program records including health logs and daily attendance
Learn, understand, and implement camp emergency policies
Other duties as assigned.
SCOPE OF WORK:
This position requires work primarily outside with exposure to weather, dirt, wildlife, and potentially harmful insects (for example, bees, hornets, wasps, etc.). Must be able to bend, stoop, stretch, and lift up to 50 pounds as well as stand for a great portion of the working day. Must be able to hike over both paved and unpaved trails. A background investigation will be completed prior to hire.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED
Two years of related experience OR college student in education, natural/environmental sciences, or a related field.
Demonstrated experience working with children
Organizational, group, and time management skills
Communication and interpersonal skills
Ability to problem solve and adapt to changing situations
General ability to be energetic, enthusiastic, flexible, and maintain a positive attitude
At least 18 years of age, able to pass FBI and MD background checks.
Maryland Natural History knowledge
CPR/AED/First Aid certified. Training made available.
