The Farm Education Coordinator will work under the direction of the Executive Director to implement and expand existing youth education programs at City Farm SLO.
About City Farm SLO
City Farm SLO (CFS) is a non-profit organization whose mission is to empower the next generation to live healthier, more prosperous lives through sustainable agriculture and farm-based education. We work toward this mission by educating SLO County youth with farm-based programming, enabling small farmers in sustainable crop production, modeling innovative agricultural practices, and engaging a diverse community of people.
About our Youth Education Programs
Pacific Beach High School Farm Class: Since 2014, CFS has partnered with Pacific Beach High School to serve students in their adapted continuation schooling program. Students meet twice weekly for farming classes centered on job-skill training. Instruction topics include: regenerative and organic farming methods, leadership and team building, and nutrition/food literacy.
Farm Field Trips: In addition to fruits and vegetables, at CFS we are growing the next generation of scientists, sustainable farmers, environmentalists, informed citizens, and change-makers. During on-the-farm field trips, students connect with where their food comes from and learn why that matters. Field trips are 2 hours long, are aligned with CA Common Core and NGSS curricula, and are offered to K - 5th Grade classes.
Therapeutic Horticulture: Children and young adults with disabilities build life skills through farm-based activities. Special Day Classes from Laguna Middle School, Los Osos Middle School, SLO High School, and the PREPARE program join us on the farm to practice life skills, communication methods, engage in sensory activities, and learn to follow directions while working on the farm. Programming is offered in partnership with San Luis Coastal Unified School District.
