Young Farmer Nights are held alternate Tuesday nights each summer in southeastern Massachusetts and Rhode Island. The evenings include a farm tour, potluck supper and bonfire. Farm owners, farm workers, interns and gardeners get together, talk about farming, share a potluck supper and build a network of peers and mentors.
The first host in 2012 was Margiana Petersen-Rockneywho grew up on Rosasharn Farm, an 80-acre farm in Rehoboth, MA where her mom Anne Petersen is nationally-known for her Nigerian Dwarf Dairy Goats. Margiana started her own bio-intensive farm with a five-acre lease from her mom in 2009. Plants and animals are ecologically integrated. The farm’s vegetable CSA feeds 50 families. Margiana also raises Cornish Cross chickens and heritage pigs for local restaurants and CSA members. The farm continues to expand its educational offerings. An assistant farm manager, two summer interns and member-volunteers work on the farm and teach together. [more]
