The Farm-Based Education Association

Inspire-Nurture-Promote

In May 2011, the FBEA will be five years old! In preparation, this April we initiated a
thorough analysis of our leadership and management structure. This exploration resulted in a reorganization that has
improved the efficiency and long-term sustainability of the FBEA as a resource
for farm-based educators.

The FBEA remains a collaboration of farm-based education organizations (see below). A Working Group of
organizational members provide leadership for the outreach and program
activities of the FBEA. Shelburne Farms remains the Fiscal Sponsor contributing
administrative, program development, and fundraising support to the
project. Brooke Redmond of Radish
Road and the Founding Executive Director of the FBEA now consults to the
project as the Director of Communications and Development. Erica Curry, Coordinator of Farm-Based Education and Farm-to-School
Programs at Shelburne Farms, is the FBEA Program
Coordinator. Mike Roman, Education Manager and Camp Director at Gorman
Heritage Farm in Ohio, consults to the program as FBEA Social Media
Coordinator.

In the last four years much has been accomplished and the need and relevance for the FBEA is greater than ever.
The FBEA's programmatic priorities remain the same:

1. To support FBEA's members and audience by producing networking
and professional development events and materials

2. To run the FBEA Membership Benefits Program, including tailored
recommendations

3. To facilitate collaborative partnerships, alliances and affiliations

The 2010-2011 Working Group of the FBEA includes representatives from the following farm-based education
programs:
  • Codman Community Farms
  • Coverdale Farm at the Delaware Nature Center
  • Drumlin Farms
  • The Farm Institute
  • The Farm School
  • Hawthorne Valley Farm
  • The Trustees of Reservations' Center for Agriculture & the Environment
  • Shelburne Farms
  • Spannocchia Foundation
  • Stone Barns Center for Food and Agriculture
If you have any questions or comments about the reorganization and transition and/or you'd like to be involved at the partnership or
leadership level, please contact Brooke.
