Vision and hopes for the fast-growing movement of farm-based education?
I hope to be an integral part of the movement in Nashville as stars align to bring the importance of a connection to the land back to our collective consciousness.
What is your favorite childhood farm or garden memory?
My fondest memory is of growing up on a 72-acre farm in rural TN where we had a 2-acre stocked lake, huge, wild blackberry fields and a 3-acre vegetable garden. My sisters and I were tasked with throwing rocks out of the less-than-cooperative soil, a necessity but not a fun gig. Our harvest was bountiful, so much so that I also learned my first lesson of service to others on this farm. We took our orange Chevy pick-up truck piled with veggies to a subsidized housing community in a nearby town to share our bounty. Many good lessons and great bonds with family and community grew on that farm. I am ever grateful.

Food Banks in the Good Food Movement

Original post at: http://rootforward.blogspot.com/When you hear “food bank,” how many of you think of the Good Food Movement?  We know food banks are an increasingly important safety net, but they give away low quality, low nutrient food right? While that is sadly the case in some instances, some food banks are creating innovative programs to improve their clients’ access to fresh, healthy foods. More than that, people like Cori Walters, the…See More
