What is your favorite childhood farm or garden memory?
You might be surprised that I have many fond memories related to the farm and garden even though I grew up in Orange County, California. Back then, it was a lot different than it is now. One special memory is of a local farmer we called "Farmer Brown". My grandmother would stop by his place on the way home from the beach with us to buy fresh corn on the cob and strawberries. He had a little hen that would sit on his knee and as he pulled back the husk on the corn, she would cock her head to see any worms that might be there. He would let her eat them if there were. He told us that the brown ones must be bitter because his little hen wouldn't eat them. Too funny!
