How to prepare for success?

The Lands at Hillside Farms is a non-profit farm-based educational organization located on a historic dairy farm.  Historically, the public has been allowed free access into our barns during daylight hours.  Three years ago, this might have meant one family coming into the barns a day.  However, this year we  have hundreds and hundreds of people in our barns a day - every day.  This is not a farming community and our "public" does not have basic farm safety in mind - they open chicken coop…See More

You probably should have sorrel (tangy lemony taste), Bronze Fennel (black licorice taste), chives, cherry tomatoes (of course), stevia, and loads of car-rots (sp. I know!). Dragon Tongue Beans also. And believe it or not hot peppers and garlic!…

Christine- I am trying to do something similar for the Greenhorns, though not a print copy. So far we have been playing around with InDesign, with the hope that the product will be translatable into an html format using a program like Dreamweaver.…

Perhaps at some point, you might create a tiered educational program where the top rungs (such as, apprentice, intern) are taught by the farmer. The farm educator could teach the other programs. Perhaps, the apprentices and interns could offset…

What is your favorite childhood farm or garden memory?
My Western Mass neighbor was a World War I vet who used every inch of his 1/4 acre lot to grow food. I loved every moment with him - pumping water from the well into a watering can, being passed sun-warm tomatoes over the fence, looking for slugs in the strawberry patch (a penny a piece!!!), and being given a robin's nest - complete with eggs that had fallen to the ground during a wind storm. I still think of him every time I spread manure on a garden.
