Phoebe K. Flemming joins the FBEA with great excitement and energy for farm-based education. She is a food and nutrition professional with experience in community, school, and clinical nutrition. She has always tried to incorporate farm and garden curricula in her nutrition teaching and has found that this helps to enhance nutrition knowledge. Her love of real and good for you food started at a young age when she preferred brussell sprouts and lima beans over candy and other treats.
As both a Registered Dietitian and an Educator, Phoebe understands the integral role that farm and garden education plays in protecting our our community's health and resources. She received her bachelor of science in nutrition and dietetics from the University of Vermont and is currently completing her Masters Degree studying the effect that nutrition-focused garden interventions have on eating habits.
Phoebe came on board as the Operations Coordinator at FBEA in September and is energized by the field of farm-based education. Phoebe is also the co-founder of "South Boston Grows," a community garden that aims to teach youth about how to care for our land and water resources all the while providing nutrition education and increased access and exposure to fresh produce in an urban neighborhood.
In addition to her love for the outdoors and wholesome food, Phoebe enjoys gardening and cooking fresh, local cuisine. She also enjoys spending time with her two Jack Russell Terriers (Grady and Fitz); hiking, running, snowshoeing, swimming, and relaxing. Phoebe has lived in Boston for 5 years and enjoys spending time in Concord.
