The Farm-Based Education Network

Inspire-Nurture-Promote

We would like to set up a calendar of events to possibly 4 different farms this year where farm based educators can get together to see what farm education looks like on various farms. If you or your farm is at all interested please reply to this discussion so we might set up some dates and possible topics.
Thanks for your interest.

We are always willing to tour our farm with groups or individuals. We may not be able to go off island ourselves, though. We would like to do something with the different farms on the island, many of whom host interns and apprentices of various kinds. At the very least get them all together for a picnic so they can share info, grievances, suggestions for farmer hosts, etc. So far, we have one 'work-learn' student and are open to work for rent and other arrangements as well.
The FARM Institute in Edgartown, MA is happy to be involved in the emerging mass network and would be happy to host a farm tour for Massachusetts farm-based educators.
Just let me know how we can help.
peace,
Matthew
The Farm School would also be more than happy to host a visit from farm based educators this summer -- our camp runs pretty much all June and July so those would be the best months for us -- not as much programming happening here in august so that's maybe not the best time. Look forward to keeping the discussion going, Patrick
Hello Everyone on the network reading this! We have had a decent response to the idea of launching a CRAFT-E, that is, in case this is your first time seeing this, CRAFT with and emphasis on Education at the farm.

To get things started I would like to propose an inaugural event to be hosted at Waltham Fields Community Farm.
I would like to try it on a Wednesday in the afternoon, say 4-6. So here are some potential dates:
May 27, June 3rd, June 10 or the 17th. If Wednesday is not a good day for folks please let me know, this is new, we are completely flexible.
At this kick-off event we will:
-Come together as a group of Farm based educators and establish a sense of purpose for these meetings. Mainly to glean ideas and discuss important topics around education on the farm and to see how other farms are doing 'it'.
-Set a calendar for other dates to come back together.
-Generate a list of topics to be covered at these meetings.
-Establish some kind of general flow for how these farm visits might look to have some sort of consistency.
-Time permitting: Discuss Farm Education at Waltham Fields, farm tour
-Potluck? We have a new outdoor learning space with a partial kitchen.

Please reply with the dates that work (or don't work for you) ASAP.
Spread the word so we can get a well rounded representation of people and organizations to come.

Thanks, Mark
Hi Mark. The June dates are better for me. Thank you for getting this started!
Please see the Events tab on this website to learn about the upcoming CRAFT-E scheduled for Wed., June 24 from 4:30-6PM. Hope you can make it and let everyone in the farm education world know too.
