South Boston Grows 2011 Intern requirements

Qualifications: College level experience required. Experience with organic farm and/or garden knowledge necessary. Community organizing and youth program development background preferred. Must be organized and task oriented. Experience with data collection/analysis a plus.

Experience: The candidate should have a Strong Experience with Organic Vegetable and Community Gardening, Water Conservation, Garden and Nutrition Education, Youth Programming and Development, Tree Conservation and Care, and Urban Neighborhoods.

Responsibilities: During the growing season, the candidate will be advising on the care and maintenance of 2 educational, urban community gardens and will have a great deal of interaction with a diverse group of residents in the community. He/She will be responsible for some youth and community program supervision so a background with community organizing and youth programming is preferred. Ideally, the candidate will have experience in farm and/or garden based education. During the off season, the candidate will be responsible for data collection, outreach, and related administrative tasks including curriculum development.

Time Commitment: The candidate needs to be available for approximately 10-12 hours per week; with 60% spent in the urban gardens and 40% spent on administrative, data collection, outreach done mostly remotely. Most gardening time will be spent during after school hours.

*Both gardens are located within a short walking distance of the red line.

Compensation: A stipend and/or class credit will be available to the candidate. The stipend per semester ranges from $500-$1000 depending upon experience. 2-4 interns will be hired over the next year.
