Phillies Bridge Farm Looking for Summer Interns (PAID) and Volunteers

Phillies Bridge Farm, located just 5 miles from New Paltz center, is looking to fill two PAID summer education internship positions. No prior experience working on a farm is necessary. Not able to commit to the full time period? Volunteers are always welcome in the spring, summer and fall!

Summer Education Interns receive hands-on educational experience on our working farm. Interns work with children and teenagers ages 5-15 at our farm-based summer camp, where they lead small groups in fun and creative activities developed to demonstrate and celebrate the cycles of nature that produce our  food. Interns also work with parents and their preschool-aged children in our Growing Together program, assist with educational birthday parties, lead farm tours for visiting children and families, and assist at our monthly Pizza & Movie Nights.

Education program activities include: planting, harvesting, cooking, creating a child-run farmer’s market, composting, arts and crafts, farm history, caring for farm animals, nature trail hikes, cooperative games, music, and storytelling. Interns are also responsible for assisting with the set-up and clean-up of all programs. While there is an established education curriculum in place, there are opportunities to develop new activities based on the interns’ interests and skills.

We are looking to hire two summer education interns for the 2012 season. The internships run from June 22nd-August 24th. Summer education interns must be prepared to work long active days with children in the outdoors. Interns are expected to work 45 hours per week, typically 8:00 a.m.-4:00 p.m. Monday-Friday, with occasional evening and weekend hours.

Summer Education Interns receive a stipend of $1,400 and produce from the farm. We are not able to provide housing for these positions.

Desired Qualifications:

  • Creative, hard-working, responsible, self-motivated, conscientious;
  • Musical and artistic skills a big plus;
  • Experience working with children;
  • Passion for nature and sustainable agriculture;
  • Positive attitude and a cooperative work ethic;

  • Reliable transportation to the farm
