The Farm-Based Education Association

Inspire-Nurture-Promote

Farm Educator/Coordinator
Newton Community Farm, a vital, five year-old organization dedicated to teaching and modeling sustainable agricultural and environmental practices, is seeking an energetic self-starter to help grow our educational programming. The Farm Educator/Coordinator (FEC) works with the Farm Manager and our volunteer Education Committee to plan and implement our educational offerings. The FEC is responsible for coordinating educational programs, including but not limited to processing of registrations and working with and leading volunteer teachers. The FEC will also help coordinate the publicity for educational programming.

In addition to the coordination work, the FEC is responsible for developing and teaching our middle school Farmer-in-Training summer program; developing and teaching a number of elementary and middle school early release programs; and coordinating and leading special farm programs for targeted groups (e.g., visiting school groups). The FEC will also work to develop farm-to-school connections and further the community-building aspect of the farm's mission.

This position requires a high degree of organization, self-motivation and innovation, and the capacity for short and long-term planning concurrent with delivery of ongoing programming. The FEC will at times be the “face” of the farm and our educational programming, so good communication skills are important.

The position, based at the Newton Community Farm, 303 Nahanton St., Newton, is currently part-time, ranging from 4 to 25 hours per week over 30-weeks (total of 500 hours,
with the potential for more dependent on funding), mid-April through October. Weekday and some weekend hours are expected.  Specific hours will vary according to program needs.  Our vision sees this staff position growing commensurate with the expansion of our educational offerings. We are looking for an individual who anticipates long-term involvement with our growing programs.

To Apply: Applications by email strongly encouraged. Please send a resume, cover letter and list of three references to:
