Farm Manager

The Urban Adamah Farm Manger is primarily responsible for the daily operations of the Urban Adamah farm and the agricultural curriculum for the Urban Adamah fellows. The Farm Manager also works closely with the Director of Education & Community Outreach to develop and run programs for farm visitors and program participants. Urban Adamah ("earth" in Hebrew) is a community farm and Jewish environmental education center located in Berkeley, CA. Our farm is run by groups of young adults who participate in a three-months leadership training program called the Urban Adamah Fellowship. The Fellowship integrates urban organic farming, direct social justice work and progressive Jewish living and learning. Urban Adamah Fellows operate the farm, teach programs to farm visitors that combine sustainable agriculture and Jewish tradition, and serve as interns at local community organizations that address issues of poverty and food security. Twelve Urban Adamah fellows are selected each spring, summer and fall to participate in the Urban Adamah Fellowship. All produce grown on our farm is distributed to members of the community in need primarily through churches and local food banks.

Requirements: The ideal candidate should have extensive farm experience, taught hands-on sustainable agriculture to adults and managed adults on a working farm. Urban agriculture experience is a huge plus, as well as knowledge of and connections to the local Bay Area urban agriculture and food justice scene. We are looking for someone who is in personal alignment with the mission, values and heart/mind/body/spirit approach of Urban Adamah. Jewish background/knowledge is not necessary, but is helpful. The candidate should also be computer literate and comfortable with technology, social networks and email outreach. Basic carpentry skills are also a huge plus.
