DESCRIPTION:Event FlyerProgramOver the three days, teachers will learn
  about our sustainable agricultural practices in raising crops and ani
 mals best suited to our region, focusing on the following questions:â€
 ˘ Where does our food really come from?â€˘ How does what we choose to 
 eat affect our health, the health of the land, the community andthe en
 vironment?â€˘ How do we begin to teach children to become thoughtful f
 ood consumers?Activities include:â€˘ In-depth tour of farm operationsâ
 €˘ Hands-on seasonal farm chores (e.g., egg collection, sheep pasture 
 rotation, plant seeding,transplanting, harvesting, greenhouse bed prep
 aration and cleaning)â€˘ Conversations with Stone Barns farmersâ€˘ Far
 m to table lunch (including seasonal harvest, lunch preparation and di
 ning)â€˘ Resources and activities to take back to the classroomThe pro
 gram is held mostly outside and involves walking and a fair amount of 
 physical activity.Participants should be prepared for all kinds of wea
 ther, and should arrive on time to make themost of the cool summer mor
 nings.\nInstructors:Judy Fink, Education Programs Director, founded an
 d developed programs for students, teachersand campers at Stone Barns.
  Prior to Stone Barns, Judy taught elementary school for 18 yearsand a
 lso coordinated curriculum and staff development at Putnam/Northern We
 stchester BOCES.Barbara Fox, Education Programs Manager, has been desi
 gning and teaching school programsat Stone Barns for three years. Barb
 ara has an MBA in Finance and a Certificate in Horticulturefrom the Ne
